Meet Your Candidates: Gowtham Yalakala

SRC 23- International Student Representative

I, Gowtham Yalakala, who is currently pursuing Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Supply Chain Management, am running in the elections to be the next International Student Representative in the Student Representative Council.

Succeeding from a family that has been in the Indian politics, I had always been interested to involve myself into any group and converse to know more about the individual irrespective of the bond I have with them.

During my bachelor’s at SRM University, Chennai, I had worked closely with the Directorate of Student Affairs as the Publicity Committee Head, where I had to be the face of the university and represent my university at various other educational Institutions.

Working around various places around the south of India has helped me gain more interest in various cultures and customs and made me want to travel abroad to know more about people, interact with them which eventually made me learn the skill of placing myself in other person’s shoes.

If elected I will be the voice of the international students and play an active role:

- To be proactive in my approach to work on student issues by meeting with key staff members to highlight the prevailing issues to them, research the realistic solutions and assisting to implement and promote changes made.

- To create a hosting program for international students to take part in cultural exchange which could help them in meeting the locals who can help each other mutually with fulfilling the job requirements and accommodation needs.
