Meet Kalyan Ramesh and Sajin: Candidates for CBUSU General Elections 2022-23

Kalyan Ramesh and Sajin are one of the slates running for the posts of President and Executive Vice-President respectively for the Cape Breton University (CBU) Students’ Union general elections 2022-23.

Kalyan is an international student from India, pursuing a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. He came to Canada in September 2021, his hobbies include writing books, focusing on the analysis of political decisions made by leaders all over the world.

Sajin is also a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma student in Supply Chain Management. Originally from India, he came to Canada seven months ago. He was actively involved in social media welfare programs and services back in India.

Caper Times asked Kalyan and Sajin, to speak about what motivated them to stand in the CBUSU general elections and their plans if elected.

They said: "The problems faced by the international students. We hope we can make a change with regards to that."

Their plans include to introduce three new offices in the union.

“One will have direct contact with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) house owners’ association. So, if there are any vacant houses, CBUSU will be informed and will allocate them to students on a first-come, first-serve basis and at a reduced rate.

"Our second new office will have direct contact with the employers’ associations of Cape Breton and Nova Scotia as a whole. This office will collect information from employers and inform students of where and what vacancies are there. We will try to get an agreement with employers to recruit only from CBU. This office will also be responsible for contacting employers from all provinces in Canada and bringing them to CBU for campus placement for all courses.

"Our third new office will be focused on student fees-related issues. We will give proposals to the CBU management to reduce fees for students. Increasing scholarship amounts are also our priority.

“Last, but not least, we will give proposals and requests to CBRM and CBRM Transit to introduce mini busses, so that there will be buses every 5-10 minutes to CBU.”

Remember, your vote matters! Mark the dates – March 21 and 22, 2022 when you can vote for the next President and Vice-President of the CBUSU.
