Meet Damanpreet Singh and Peter Oyedijo: Candidates for CBUSU General Elections 2022-23

Damanpreet Singh and Peter Oyedijo are one of the slates running for the posts of President and Executive Vice-President respectively, in the Cape Breton University (CBU) Students’ Union general elections 2022-23.

Damanpreet is a third-semester student in the Supply Chain Management Diploma Program. He hails from India and he started here at CBU in May 2021. In his free time, he likes to help others and listening to music.

Peter Oyedijo is a third-year student in the Bachelor of Business Administration (Supply Chain Management) Program. He was born and raised in southwestern Nigeria and moved to Canada in 2019. He is currently a Student Representative for the Shannon School of Business in the Students' Union and also the Deputy Chair of the Students' Council. In his free time, he loves to engage and converse with his fellow students about issues going around. Apart from that, he also loves reading, watching movies, playing musical instruments.

Caper Times asked Damanpreet and Peter to share their views on what inspired them to stand in the CBUSU general elections, here are their answers

Damanpreet Singh says: "I realize that I have been doing this for a long time without any position, so if I get a position, I could do it better. That’s why I am running in this election. ”

Apart from this, he wants to make a lot of changes, starting from problems related to accommodation, jobs, and study.

He said: "I want to do a lot of changes that I have in my mind but my major focus is on accommodation, jobs, and study. So I am planning to obtain a helpline number for students, which may answer their questions regarding jobs, study, and accommodation. For example, if a student wants accommodation, they can simply dial a number and a housing coordinator provides them leads and they can also be eligible to get general information instantly by making one call. So basically one call for all of your problems.”

Peter Oyedijo also shared his views. “As the current student representative for the Shannon School of Business in the Students' Union and the Deputy Chair of the Students' Council, I have had the chance to debate on student matters. I also had an opportunity to work closely with the present executive team, and throughout my time, I have seen a lot of positive changes and will ensure to develop on this momentum and further provide a great student experience for all," he said.

"As an individual who is passionate about being a voice and an advocate for students, some of the issues faced by fellow students on campus informed my action to run.

"I do strongly believe that if the slate of (Daman and Peter) is elected, ideas and innovations will ensure solutions are brought to the table. We will ensure that students’ concerns e.g. (Housing, Transportation) are heard, ensure that the students union is safe, sustainable, and welcoming to all."
