A Glimpse of GuruPurab :CBU Students Celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th Birthday
Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Utsav is celebrated all over the world marking the birth of the first Sikh Guru – Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
CBU students left no stone unturned when they came together to rejoice this auspicious day. On November 16th , 2019 students organised Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji paath and kirtan at Grand Lake Fire Hall in Sydney, Cape Breton. This was the very first time that a religious event was organised at such a huge scale marking the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Students and community members gathered in huge numbers to attend the religious ceremony. The ceremony featured Sri Sukhmani Sahib Ji paath and kirtan, which was then followed by Guru ka Langar. The langar was served to more than a 1000 people.
Students were generous in their donations at the fund raising event held earlier this month by the student organising members, which resulted in the celebration being as successful as it was.

“It was very solemn. I was there for an hour. There are a lot of things that reminded me of my own religion. I liked the fact that we covered our head for the prayer as a mark of respect. We also enjoyed the feast at the end ” said Ellein, who works at CBU library.
Recently students had been expressing their interest to organize religious events as a part of the religious and cultural practice. This event filled their hearts with nostalgia making Cape Breton a home away from home.
